Phones as hotspots

 5G phones can have different hotspot speeds due to several factors, even though they all support 5G. These differences arise from:

1. 5G Band Compatibility

• Not all 5G phones support the same frequency bands. Some phones only support Sub-6 GHz 5G, which offers wider coverage but lower speeds, while others also support mmWave 5G, which provides ultra-fast speeds but limited range.
• A phone with mmWave support will offer faster hotspot speeds in areas where mmWave is available compared to one that only supports Sub-6 GHz.

2. Carrier Network and Coverage

• Each carrier uses different 5G technologies and frequency bands. Even if two phones are similar, their internet speed depends on how the carrier’s 5G network is deployed in the user's area.
• Some carriers offer faster speeds in certain regions, so the phone's hotspot performance will vary based on carrier coverage.

3. Device Specifications

• The internal hardware, including the modem (e.g., Qualcomm Snapdragon X55, X60), affects how well a phone can handle and transmit 5G signals. Newer modems are more efficient and can handle higher data rates.
• Phones with better Wi-Fi standards (e.g., Wi-Fi 6 or 6E) will provide faster hotspot capabilities, as they can transmit data more efficiently to connected devices.

4. Network Conditions

• Factors like network congestion, distance from a 5G tower, and interference also influence hotspot speeds. Even with the best hardware, performance can vary based on network conditions.

5. Battery and Thermal Management

• Sustained high-speed 5G usage can strain a phone’s battery and generate heat. Some phones may throttle speeds to manage battery life and overheating, affecting hotspot performance.
