Antara perkara yang perlu dilakukan oleh seseorang sebelum membeli kitab turath ialah memastikan cetakan yang dimilikinya adalah cetakan yang minima kesalahannya. Ini adalah sangat munasabah terutamanya apabila mengenangkan bahawa cetakan sebahagian kitab mempunyai kesalahan yang begitu banyak yang boleh merosakkan pemahaman kepada teks asal. Ini antara nasib yang menimpa kitab al Umm.
Dalam lebih seratus tahun ini dari cetakan buulaaq sehingga cetakan Dr. Rif'at sudah lebih 5 kali rupanya kitab Al Umm dicetak tapi rata-ratanya penuh dengan kesilapan yang menjatuhkan standard pengarang. Disebutkan oleh beberapa tokoh bahawa cetakan terbaik kitab ini ialah cetakan dengan tahqiq Dr. Rif'at. Cumanya cetakan ini tidak ada baris penuh seperti sesetengah cetakan lain. Ini menyebabkan kalau kita menjadi tukang baca atau pendengar dalam majlis samaa' maka otak perlu bekerja lebih keras untuk mencapai kesimpulan nahu, sorof serta lughah yang betul kepada pelbagai ayat.
